In 1950 Timex was experimenting with naming their watches. This is something Kelton, another Timex brand was already doing in the previous century. Here you can see a Counsellor (Mercury), Classic (Petite) and Sportster (Marlin) being advertised in 1950 along side the mnemonic Timex models.
