Timex Southampton
Timex Southampton was the name given 2 models of chronostop watches manufactured in 1957 and 1958 by Timex. 1957’s Timex Southampton watch featured a white dial with black and red markings, the 1958 version had a black dial., Timex Southampton watches was advertised as being a chronographs. To this end there is a sweeping seocnds hand that can be started, stopped and reset via a rocker switch and a spiral of text in the center of the dial that was an early form of tachometer allowing speed and distance to be measured.
The chrono-stop function of the Timex Southampton is managed by a rocker switch which sits at above the crown on the side of the case. Push down to start, center to stop and push up to reset. The sweeping seconds hand can be left to run when in use but resets to 12 o-clock when the chronograph is reset.
The Southampton watch was made using a modified M22 caliber of movement and is not featured as a separate model number in the catalogs. This is a manually wound movement.
