Year: 1957

Model: Timex Marlin
Type: Demonstrator Watch
Movement: m22
Case: Chrome plate over base metal
Manufactured: USA
Complication: Manual wind movement.

This men’s Timex Marlin from 1957 has the words “DEMONSTRATOR WATCH” printed on the dial. This identifies this watch as a model that was potentially used in an in-store torture test that were a popular marketing tool used by Timex in the 1950s and 60s. Unique to demonstrator watches was the intentional removal of the sweeping second hand. This is potentially due to this being a common point of failure when torturing the watch.

The watch is housed in a chrome plated case. The dial of this Timex marlin is white with embossed alternating arabic and stick markers. The edge of the dial is printed with a seconds track. The hands are chromed and faceted. In addition to DEMONSTRATOR WATCH the dial has TIMEX and WATERPROOF printed in black lettering.

Hi, My name is Mark Rushworth AKA Timetrope on Social Media. Ive been collecting Timex watches for a little over three years. From day one the community of collectors have been very patient and generous for the most part which has kept my interest and engagement in the hobby.

'Ive set up this website partly as a way of cataloging my collection and its many gaps, and as a way of paying forwards the kindness offered to me by Knut, Ian and others (you know who you are).
