This vintage Timex Q watch was produced for the 1980 Moscow Olympic games. This event was boycotted by many countries which makes promotional material for this event extremely rare. I have this piece with tags in box which is a find! The use of the word Olympics suggests this model was intended for possibly the french or french Canadian market.
The 1980 Olympic Timex Q mens sports watch is build upon a chrome plated case with hidden lugs. The dial houses a friction fit 12 hour bezel made up of an upper blue and lower red section with white printed markings. On the standard Timex Q this is called a Pepsi bezel. The dial is blue with white printed detail that includes: a triangle at the 12 position. circular markings at 1 2 4 5 7 8 10 and 11. Elongated arrow markings at 6 and 9. There is a printed seconds track around the edge of the dial and the day-date windows are framed in white. The hands are red with white center details. The summer olympic logo, MOSCOW 1980 and Q TIMEX QUARTZ are printed in white on the dial. The watch was manufacturered in Taiwan.
The 4 piece box is made up of upper, lower, intenal base and internal hoop plastic components. The base is has a sticker stating TIMEX 1980 OLYMPIC SERIES OLIMPIQUES suggesting the watch was possibly made for the French Canadian market. The watch has the original price tag looped around the steel bracellet. The original papers are present at the back of the case.
