Timex Southampton 1237 2258 [1958]

Year: 1958
Reference: 1237 2258
Model: Timex Southampton
Type: Chronostop (Marketed as a chronograph)
Movement: m22 variant
Complication: Manual wind movement.
Case: Chrome plated base metal

Advertised as a chronograph but in actual fact a Chronostop, the Timex Southampton replaces the sweeping seconds hand with a chronograph hand that can be started and stopped to measure time. In the center of the dial is a red spiral containing numerals. This is a variation on a tachometer and can provide calculations for up to 3 revolutions of the chronostop hand.

The case of the Timex Southampton men’s watch is chrome plated over base meta. A sliding pusher is located above a standard watch crown and gives you access to the 3 functions of the chronograph: Start, Stop and Reset. The dial is white with red printed tachometer markings and alternating lumed arabic and triangular markers. The hands are lumed and the chronograph hand is painted red.

Hi, My name is Mark Rushworth AKA Timetrope on Social Media. Ive been collecting Timex watches for a little over three years. From day one the community of collectors have been very patient and generous for the most part which has kept my interest and engagement in the hobby.

'Ive set up this website partly as a way of cataloging my collection and its many gaps, and as a way of paying forwards the kindness offered to me by Knut, Ian and others (you know who you are).
