In 1892 Ingersoll’s first watch was made by the Waterbury Clock Company and was called “Universal”.

Unlike contemporary watches, the Universal had a movement more aligned with a clock than a wristwatch. They were key, not crown wound and set the time by adjusting a wheel inside the case.

in 1896 the $1 Yankee was cheapest watch in production, launching the “dollar watch” phenomena. Like later Timex ,it was manufacturered from stamped parts and without jewels.

In 1899 the Waterbury Clock Company produced 8,000 watches per day and by 1910 3,500,000 watches were produced annually.

In the 1930s, the new Ingersoll-Waterbury company made the first Mickey Mouse watch, selling 5 million of these watches in the first 15 years

The Ingersoll Watch Company went bankrupt and was purchased by the Waterbury Clock Company in 1922 for $1,500,000. Renamed United States Time Corporation,
they produced Ingersoll aling side Timex and other brands throughout the 1950s.
